Join professional photoguide Dave Williams and Kersten Luts on an exclusive series of workshops in the Lofoten Islands
There will be a valiant Viking, epic landscapes, rugged mountains, majestic fjords, beautiful reindeer, world-renowned food, traditional red cabins, dancing aurora, and expert tuition from two professional photo guides.
Your Instructors:
Dave Williams
Kersten Luts
Your Viking:
Roel Van Mierlo and Marja Effenberger
Early in the course there will be a casual lecture in which the mechanics of the aurora will be fully explained to students. It’s important to have an understanding of what’s happening high above our heads so that when it comes to getting our cameras out, we’re ready to shoot.
In a separate session the class will learn how to photograph the aurora. We’ll cover all the settings, how to keep the camera stable, and how the moon and any artificial light will impact our final photo.
We'll have masterclasses in our own classroom where we'll learn about portrait photography and landscape photography with pro-tips, so that we can photograph the Viking model and the landscapes in the best possible way. You will get to know the Viking model and how to work with them, as well as how to stage your scene as the art director. The two expert photo guides will always be on-hand to assist with any technical or creative queries, deliver extra training in the field, and provide photo reviews throughout the course.
There will be landscape photo sessions without the Viking at classic Lofoten locations, along with continued expert tuition and guidance.
We will visit a traditional Sami camp where we'll enter the reindeer paddock, get up close and personal with the friendly reindeer, and photograph them. Your guides will explain everything you need to know about the reindeer and there'll be a traditional Sami lunch and a place to warm up.
During our stay at Svinøya Rorbuer we have access to our own classroom in the main building, along with a bar to relax and unwind. Dinner at Børsen Spiseri is included on the first night of the course and we will have a Viking Feast on the last evening before heading home. Breakfast and a packed lunch is provided every day. We will be staying in original red fishermens cabins on an historic island centred around fishing life, and the sea.
The weather in Lofoten will determine our exact schedule, but remember that bad weather makes great photos. We'll visit Hamnøy, Sakrisøy, Reine, Å, Henningsvær, Austnesfjord, Ramberg, Nusfjord, Skagsanden, and other iconic Lofoten locations.
