Skiing and Lofoten may not be synonymous with each other, like fish and Lofoten, but to those of us who are familiar with conditions here, the idea is not so far fetched. The combination of the sea, mountains and daylight conditions makes skiing in Lofoten a unique experience – untouched powder snow from summit to shore.

In Lofoten you will find skiing terrain suitable for all levels of proficiency, from peaceful trips in the countryside to the steepest peaks you can imagine. We offer guiding at all levels. You can choose from our scheduled trips as seen below, or hire a ski guide for a day or two. We also offer sea transport on a RIB providing you with the opportunity of enjoying the more exclusive side of skiing in Lofoten.

A RIB is the natural choice when it comes to transport in Lofoten

On board a RIB, the excitement starts long before your downhill descent!

A selection of the trips we do:

1. Markatur – A trip in the countryside

A relaxed trip through the countryside from Kongsmarka to Kabelvågmarka, where we get close to the Lofoten mountains. On this trip we will have plenty of time for a picnic round a cosy campfire. Participants need no special skiing experience.

• Duration: 3 hours
• Degree of difficulty: Easy

haugen

2. Haugen Farm - Svolvær

A classical mountain skiing trip. We start at Haugen Farm near Laukvik, make our way up in the mountains to about 400 metres above sea level, and traverse the island of Austvågøya to Svolvær. On this trip we really get into the heart of Lofoten’s mountains. Participants on this trip should have some previous experience of mountain skiing.

• Duration: 4-5 hours
• Degree of difficulty: Moderate

 3. Pilan (650 m asl)

Pilan is a mountain massif at the head of the Austnesfjord where we find a magnificent panoramic view of the tall alpine peaks of the Raftsundet massif. This is pure summit skiing, the idea being to enjoy the view and then some wonderful crisscrossing down the mountainside. Participants on this trip should have some experience of summit skiing and be relatively proficient in turning techniques.

• Duration: 4-5 hours
• Degree of difficulty: Moderate

Tindannærdok

4. Småtindan – the small peaks (704 m asl)

The Småtindan peaks are the most frequently used playground for skiers in Vågan. The climb is fairly easy, and the trip provides you with a wide range of opportunity and degrees of difficulty for your descent. Wonderful view across the Vestfjord with Svolvær and Kabelvåg in the foreground. Participants on this trip should have some experience of summit skiing and be relatively proficient in turning techniques.

• Duration: 4-5 hours
• Degree of difficulty: Moderate to demanding
• Price: NOK 595 per person

Rundtind 2

5. Rundtind (803 m asl)

Rundtind is Vågan’s answer to Mont Blanc. It is a big mountain with a number of ascent and descent routes in all directions. We choose the route where the snow is best on the day in question. From the summit you have a 360 degree panoramic view of the entire Lofoten archipelago. Participants on this trip should have some experience of summit skiing and be relatively proficient in turning techniques.

• Duration: 5-6 hours
• Degree of difficulty: Moderate to demanding

6. Geitgaljen (1085 m asl)

Geitgaljen offers the best summit skiing in Lofoten and some of the best in the country. A relatively demanding climb is rewarded with a long, varied and exciting descent. The peak is situated in the heart of one of Norway’s most alpine-like areas with some steep drops and magnificent mountains all around. Participants on this trip should have broad experience of summit skiing and be relatively proficient in using ice axes and crampons.

• Duration: 6-7 hours

• Degree of difficulty: Demanding
